Arch Enemy is a thrash-influenced melodic death metal band formed in 1996. Their lyrics are themed towards rebellion against contemporary society and religion. Arch Enemy, the brainchild of Michael Amott (ex-Carcass, Carnage and Spiritual Beggars) was originally assembled from the ashes of legendary British melodic death metal/grindcore band Carcass. Guitarists Michael Amott and younger brother Christopher Amott were joined by vocalist Johan Liiva (ex-Carnage) and then-session drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Armageddon, Eucharist) in what Michael Amott called "An attempt to merge melody with aggression and technicality." The band's debut, entitled Black Earth, was released by the now defunct Wrong Again Records in 1996. It obtained a fair amount of success in Japan, achieving MTV rotation with their first single "Bury Me An Angel", as well as moderate success in Sweden.

Lament Of A Mortal Soul Lyrics

Arch Enemy

I am forced to creep down the path
Of my sad and senseless life
Darkness surrounds me
At the end of teh tunnel there is no light

A blackened void, nothingness

Lament of a mortal soul
Who am I?
Only dust in the blowing wind
Am I dying?

My name dies slowly
Echoes into eternal oblivion
Replaced by others, castly forgotten
I hate my empty existence

[1st Lead - Christopher]
[2nd Lead - Michael]

Lament of a mortal soul
Who am I?
Only dust in the blowing wind
...I am dying!
