Arch Enemy is a thrash-influenced melodic death metal band formed in 1996. Their lyrics are themed towards rebellion against contemporary society and religion. Arch Enemy, the brainchild of Michael Amott (ex-Carcass, Carnage and Spiritual Beggars) was originally assembled from the ashes of legendary British melodic death metal/grindcore band Carcass. Guitarists Michael Amott and younger brother Christopher Amott were joined by vocalist Johan Liiva (ex-Carnage) and then-session drummer Daniel Erlandsson (Armageddon, Eucharist) in what Michael Amott called "An attempt to merge melody with aggression and technicality." The band's debut, entitled Black Earth, was released by the now defunct Wrong Again Records in 1996. It obtained a fair amount of success in Japan, achieving MTV rotation with their first single "Bury Me An Angel", as well as moderate success in Sweden.

Pilgrim Lyrics

Arch Enemy

From the womb, to the tomb
An eternal struggle for the holy truth
We are not the first, nor shall we be the last
We shall be followed by thousands more
Study the scriptures - Intensify the faith
The works of men much greater than you or I
From the cradle to the grave
Thousands of immortal souls just waiting to be saved!

Pilgrim man - What are you searching for?
Believe the tales when everything else fails
Pilgrim man - Deep in your heart you know
Your faith is already bought and sold

All my life I served the cross
Always believing my God was a just one
I maimed for you - I killed for you
But looking back at my life
I just don't know anymore...
